ALL ABOUT THE ROAST MASTERS COFFEE

ALL ABOUT KETIARA IPAK GAYO, THE COFFEE BEING USED AT ROAST MASTERS 2019.

24 September 2019

For Roast Masters 2019, our official green coffee supplier of the competition, Armenia Coffee, worked with a coop called P.T. Ketiara to source a coffee specifically for the event.

The coffee, which is called Ketiara IPAK Gayo, hails from a women-led cooperative in the Gayo Highlands of Indonesia. Not only does Ketiara provide stellar premium coffee, this coop creates opportunities for women and builds a sense of community for the farmers within the coffee business.

If you’re a coffee nerd like us, here are the nitty gritty details.

Location: Bener Meriah, Takengon, Aceh

Altitude: 1,200m – 1,700m (3,937ft – 5,575ft)

Varietal: Arabica Gayo 1 and Gayo 2

Process: Semi-washed

“The coffee is grown in the forested mountains surrounding Leuser National Park, using shade grown coffee production as a means to protect the local ecosystem. The complexity of the coffee in the cup profile is a testament to the care taken in growing and post-harvest processing.” Armenia Coffee describes it as, “complex with nice body, fresh spices, apple, cedar, tropical fruits, floral, brown sugar, medium-acidity, dark chocolate and caramel.”

IF YOU WANT TO LEARN MORE ABOUT THE COFFEE, OR TRY IT FOR YOURSELF, BE SURE TO CHECK OUT THE ROAST MASTERS COMPETITION.
